Susegana, February 2024 – Visottica Group, a Veneto-based company and world leader in the production of eyewear components, is launching its first three-year Sustainability Plan, which identifies strategic areas, objectives and actions aimed at enhancing the Group’s commitment towards the development of a responsible business from an economic, social, and environmental perspective along the entire value chain.
The Plan, developed with the support of Deloitte and called ‘The Visible Journey’, identifies a series of areas of action consistent with the company’s business model and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Specifically, the document focuses on specific areas of action such as: progressive reduction of environmental impact, enhancement of labour resources and protection of human capital, consolidation of governance, and product innovation.
‘Visottica Group is consolidating its commitment to sustainability and choosing to do so with a transparent and practical approach – underlines President Rinaldo Montalban. Over the past year, we have embarked on an important study and evaluation of our impact, identifying areas for improvement in the medium to long term and defining the objectives that will guide us from here on, in a manner that is consistent with the standards that the sector is now demanding across the world. We have already progressed significantly in the implementation of some projects, while others are in the early and developmental stages. Through this plan, we are increasingly committed to reducing our ecological footprint, promoting ethical working practices, and actively contributing to the well-being of the communities in which we operate. We firmly believe in these values, which have always been part of the corporate DNA, and we are convinced that these aspects are essential for the sustainable growth of the Group and the company in its entirety’.
The three-year programme will be developed step by step under the supervision of the Visottica Group ESG Committee, set up in 2023 to check the progress of the projects contained in the Plan, which will work together with a new working group dedicated to Sustainability distributed between the company’s Italian and Asian offices.
Thanks also to the introduction of an in-house energy manager to handle environmental impacts, the company has outlined a path that will gradually lead to the reduction of Scope 1 and 2 emissions and the consequent decrease in carbon footprint.
In parallel, Visottica Group is committed to using sustainable materials for production and packaging and to managing water resources efficiently. In this respect, accurate monitoring systems have already been implemented to assess and manage water consumption and recycling in production operations. In particular, the plants of Visottica in Susegana, Ethos in San Zenone degli Ezzelini and Comotec in Dongguan (China) are currently equipped with an internal system capable of recovering almost all the wastewater used during production and, after an appropriate treatment, reintegrate it into the industrial cycle.
Lastly, the company intends to continue with the investment programme aimed at the gradual conversion to photovoltaics at the various Group sites.
Regarding human resources and the protection of the individual, initiatives are planned to implement the protection of health and safety beyond the guaranteed level, to enhance the talents and professional growth of employees, to promote the physical and mental wellbeing of workers (including through wellness plans customised for the various locations) and to spread a culture focused on sustainability. Special attention is paid to equal opportunities: the number of female employees in the Group already exceeds the number of male employees.
In the third area (innovation), ‘The Visible Journey‘ considers products as the first ambassadors of the values of excellence and sustainability. The commitment defined by the document is to always work by placing great importance to the customer service, attention to all stakeholders, ethics and respect for intellectual property, the sustainable use of materials, and the promotion of responsible business practices throughout the supply chain.
And finally, regarding governance, the primary objective is to create a model that consolidates the Group’s growing structure and development processes also to the benefit of sustainability. Furthermore, Visottica confirms its support for social, sporting, and cultural initiatives.
